Handling Hands (touring)

A mesmerizing Sino-Swiss dance theater production co-created by Alessandro Schiattarella [CH] and Liu Yan [CN]. This unique collaboration blends their distinct cultural backgrounds and shared life experiences, creating a powerful narrative of inclusion and creativity. It premiered at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing on July 6.
‘Handling Hands is the encounter between two disabled artists who go outside their comfort zone, tell their stories, and support each other. It is a meeting of two people and cultures, so distant but also so similar. The work is about hands – hands that heal, hands that take control, soft hands, and "transcendental" hands… hands as limb, but also as symbol, as status, as metaphor.
“Handling Hands” was produced within the framework of Pro Helvetia's co-creation projects. Co-creation projects allow for collaborations between artists and collectives in Switzerland and their counterparts in regions in the liaison offices.
